⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
If you're a seafood lover, 928 Eatery on Dominion Road, Mt Eden is an absolute must-visit! From the moment we walked in, we were impressed by the freshness of the ingredients—there’s a large tank showcasing all the live seafood available, so you know exactly what you’re getting. It’s not just a meal here—it’s a full experience.
The menu is focused and straightforward: fresh seafood is the star of the show. Don’t expect a long menu with lots of options—this place is all about premium, quality seafood done right. We ordered the combination seafood pot and a king crab, and both were absolutely amazing. The seafood pot was full of flavour and generously portioned, perfect for sharing. The king crab was fresh, meaty, and cooked to perfection.
What really stood out, even beyond the delicious food, was the exceptional service. Honestly, it was the best service we’ve received at any restaurant in a long time. The staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. One staff member even helped us cook the seafood combination pot at our table, which made the experience even more enjoyable and memorable. It felt like we were being hosted rather than just served.
We also tried the Paua fried rice, and it was a delightful surprise—perfectly cooked and rich in seafood flavour. Every dish felt thoughtfully prepared, highlighting the freshness of the ingredients.
Another bonus is the free parking lot behind the restaurant, which is a rare find in this area and makes visiting even more convenient.
We had a wonderful night with lots of fresh seafood, great conversation, and warm hospitality. Highly recommend 928 Eatery if you want an authentic and satisfying seafood experience in Auckland.

Good place to come for takeaways but not much to support eating there.
Friendly owner, which is always nice.
Roast meat was very tasty - generous portion, gravy, vegetables etc
If you are eating there you won't get a plate or a knife. Meal will come in plastic container with a wooden fork.
There's definitely room for an extra table inside, quite strange no plates or proper cutlery. Wouldn't take much effort to make this a more enjoyable experience for people who want to eat there ...

The roast meals are always good especially the roast pork meal and that pork crackling is fire! The hot chips, fried chicken and chicken nibbles are some of the best in Auckland!
Service is great too except sometimes a grumpy lady behind the counter who can't take a joke and also when they say the hot chips will take "7 minutes" but it takes double that!
(NOTE: I am describing my interaction with the previous owners, not the current new owners who were running the shop the week before Christmas 2023).

Not a bad experience, but definitely noted some things that could be improved.
The salmon katsu was very heavily coated in crumb, so the ratio was quite off, and made the fish very hard and over cooked.
The vegetable tempura was not bad, but the batter could be better, and it needed more sauce. The sauce it was served with wasn't a traditional tempura sauce either.
The rice was very bland, no seasoning.
I requested for the vegetable bento to be served with no fish, but I received a prawn cutlet and salmon sushi piece.
The salad desperately needed a creamy roasted sesame dressing, as it was very plain, and combined with plain rice and tempura with very little sauce, it was a little underwhelming.
The katsu chicken was nice and crunchy and came with a sauce on top which was tasty.
I'd definitely look forward to trying this place again if they made some changes.
A side note, this place was a little hard to see from the street as the main signage said Dons n' Rolls, not Brown Rice Japanese.
