Dropped in for the first time on Mother’s Day at lunchtime and they were pretty busy. Fortunately, we managed to get a table. There were probably only 3 to 4 staff so service was a little slow but not overly bad. They do have the usual Kiwi style breakfast and also the traditional style Vietnamese food and drinks. The Vietnamese coffee was great however it would be nice to serve with an extra side of hot water as the condensed milk might seem overly sweet for some. Food was tasty and generous portions which we ended up taking some home. There are 2 toilets available and I have to say that they are pretty clean. The only letdown were the flies. We are nearing winter and there were easily around 10 flies buzzing around, so I would expect summer to be much worse. This would be something that’s easily taken care of so would definitely be back for more meals.
Our dinner last night at Mr Ji's Kitchen was a fantastic experience. The staff were wonderfully attentive and friendly, making us feel welcome. The food was simply outstanding; every dish was fresh and flavourful. We were especially impressed with the pork items. Be warned, the portion sizes are incredibly generous! We didn't realize how huge they were and happily ended up with enough delicious leftovers for another meal, which we had to bring back in takeaway boxes. Highly recommended and will definitely be back.
I always look forward to visiting Yan’s during my trips, and it has become a cherished tradition for me. The Asian food at the cafeteria is simply outstanding! Whether I’m craving a flavorful stir-fry or some delicious dumplings, Yan’s never disappoints. The freshness and authenticity of the dishes really stand out, making each visit a delightful culinary experience.
What I love most is the vibrant atmosphere and the friendly staff who always greet me with a warm smile. It’s the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy a meal before I continue with my day. After savoring my food, I usually spend some time shopping at the nearby stores. There’s such a great variety of shops that I can always find something special to take back home to Whanganui.
For me, Yan’s is not just a meal; it’s a part of my travel routine. I always make sure it’s the last stop before I head back home, as it wraps up my trip on a high note. If you’re in the area, I highly recommend stopping by Yan’s for a delicious meal and a fun shopping experience! You won’t regret it!
Amazing, amazing takeaway! Crumbed fish was just perfect lots of fish, chips were not oily and salty! The sweet and sour chicken was my favourite so fresh and chicken so thick. I’ll return many times 😇

Picked up a value pack via Uber Eats as the weather didn’t motivate me to go for a drive.
Order: 2 Fish, chips, sausage and hotdog
Cost: $25.20
Fish was Warehou clean and smelt good and the size was good too. That was the best bits as the usual golden crunch of the batter was not there and the filet was noticeably chewy. If you’ve ever reheated FNC in the meecrowhavey the next day, the texture of everything doesn’t hit the spot, and that’s the experience I had here.
The chips were a bit floppy side and soft to the bite. They reminded me of the chips you can get from a bakery selling chicken, which was okay just not that typical Chinese Chip Standard 😒
The sausage and hotdog were true to form and delivered the expected experience. Good size and very tasty, light in the oil as well.
I tried to figure it out, but I’ve had chippy dinners from over the hill before, and they have arrived in a better state. Can only describe it as ‘Aueeee’
We just passed the cafe and was intrigue about Turkish cousine. Did not dissappoint. The place is cozy and quiet. Definitely the food tastes good and has big portions. NO gamey taste for the lamb👍🏻
