I always look forward to visiting Yan’s during my trips, and it has become a cherished tradition for me. The Asian food at the cafeteria is simply outstanding! Whether I’m craving a flavorful stir-fry or some delicious dumplings, Yan’s never disappoints. The freshness and authenticity of the dishes really stand out, making each visit a delightful culinary experience.
What I love most is the vibrant atmosphere and the friendly staff who always greet me with a warm smile. It’s the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy a meal before I continue with my day. After savoring my food, I usually spend some time shopping at the nearby stores. There’s such a great variety of shops that I can always find something special to take back home to Whanganui.
For me, Yan’s is not just a meal; it’s a part of my travel routine. I always make sure it’s the last stop before I head back home, as it wraps up my trip on a high note. If you’re in the area, I highly recommend stopping by Yan’s for a delicious meal and a fun shopping experience! You won’t regret it!

My second visit. Last time was Turkish coffee, apple tea and an excellent not-to-sweet baklava.
This time lunch was meze platter and lamb shish. Great flavoursome lamb, loved the stuffed vine leaves, and found my new favourite beetroot dip.
The only issue is that there is a lot of salt in some foods, e.g. the zucchini fritters we bought for a 1 year old.
We appreciated the atmosphere, decor and our alcove in the window.
Staff are very good, again.

Excellent food, and you can see from the interactions with customers that many of them are repeat customers. One customer even came back to pick up a purse that they left behind.

If you’re looking for an authentic halal Chinese restaurant with great food, large servings and quick service, this is the place to be. Bookings are recommended as they do get filled up some nights. I’ve been to many Chinese restaurants and this sits well on top of my list and the food is always consistent and service is quick no matter how busy they are.

Peaceful piano music was very relaxing.
This place has quite an insane menu - they literally have everything. It’s got all the canteen type food pies, chips fried chicken burgers etc then it also has all day breakfasts and a sirloin steak, plus a full range of Vietnamese delights! Plus shakes and smoothies - something here for everyone - and at friendly prices. Great for a family lunch basically!
