Wow finally found a fish n chip shop that is worthy of calling a great fish n chip shop. Batter was crunchy and the fish meat inside was fat. The chips were fat and cooked to perfection. Heard about it often and never had the chance to come here and we are so glad we did. Service was fantastic.

The day started with very low expectations. When we first arrived at the beach, the conditions didn’t look promising at all. The wind was strong, the water looked messy, and the waves didn’t seem to have much shape. It felt like one of those days where you paddle out anyway, fully expecting it to be a waste of time. Still, we decided to give it a go, telling ourselves that even a bad surf is better than no surf at all.
Once we got out the back, things slowly started to change. The waves weren’t perfect, but they were way better than they looked from the shore. There were some clean sets rolling through, and with fewer people in the water, it was easier to get waves without battling for position. After the first couple of rides, the session started to feel fun rather than frustrating. The waves had enough power to actually work on turns, and even when you fell, it didn’t feel like a punishment. It turned into one of those surprise surfs where you come in smiling because it completely exceeded your expectations.
By the time we finished, everyone was tired but in a good mood. Surfing always seems to make food taste better, so heading to Seaview Takeaways afterwards felt like the perfect plan. We ordered chips, keeping expectations fairly neutral, especially since it’s a pretty classic post-surf choice.
The chips were clearly hand cut and very chunky, which at first seemed like a good sign. Unfortunately, the texture didn’t really deliver. Instead of being fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside, they were soft to the point where they almost felt like mashed potatoes in chip form. There was also no salt at all, which made them taste pretty bland unless you added your own. On top of that, the chips were very oily, leaving your fingers greasy and the chips feeling heavy rather than satisfying.
That said, there were still some positives. The service was fast — it only took nine minutes from ordering to getting the food, which is impressive, especially when you’re hungry after surfing. The portion size was decent, and you could tell the chips were freshly made rather than frozen, which counts for something.
Overall, Seaview Takeaways earns a solid three-star review. The speed and freshness were good, but the lack of salt, overly soft texture, and excess oil stopped the chips from being great. Just like the surf that day, expectations were low — but unlike the surf, the chips didn’t quite exceed them

I have just had the pleasure of going to the Seaview takeaway shop and over all I am happy, but the chips I got where thick to a good standard however the chips were not crispy and the salt content was poor. As my surfing companions would know that it is tuff paddle out so some good food is needed.Would I go there again yes

The fish was so large and the chips were hand cut and chunky. Am looking forward to going back for the chicken burger and those amazing chips. Had it in the car overlooking a windy day in Welly by Lyall Bay.
