So many awesome reviews and photos.. this place is really popular, so let me add my 50 cents in the kitty.
If you are near Hamilton, NZ, and got cravings for some spice and symphony of taste on the tip of your tongue, then you shall find it at Bala's.
- Staff is friendly and accommodating. They changed the music for us which I think was impressive.
- The food has been reviewed so many times, no need to comment. Tables and cutlery was clean. Decorum and everything else is top notch, and very well presented.
- Toilet was clean, well stocked.
- Parking on the side, several car ports. At lunch time, plentiful.
- The premises has a separate hall for functions, as on photo.
Every time I'm near, I will be having a pit-stop at Bala's.

The dosa was perfectly crisp on the outside and soft inside, served with flavorful chutneys and sambar. The filter coffee was rich, strong, and had that authentic South Indian taste. A truly delightful experience that I’d love to have again.

I recently tried their new menu fried parotta and it was absolutely amazing! I’ve never had anything like it in New Zealand before highly recommend giving it a try. Their authentic South Indian dosas are also fantastic and full of flavor. On top of that, the staff are super friendly and welcoming. A great experience overall.

Had a wonderful experience at the South Indian brunch buffet at Bala’s Madras Restaurant!
The nethil fry was definitely a highlight - perfectly prepared and flavorful. But what really stood out were the fundamentals: the sambar and chutney were absolutely delicious. You can tell when a South Indian restaurant gets these basics right, and Bala’s certainly does.
The buffet focused on authentic South Indian cuisine, which was refreshing. The food tasted fresh and the flavors were well-balanced.
Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for quality South Indian food in a buffet setting!
