You must try their charcoal salted egg custard bun and ma la cake (ma lai go) if you want a novelty. The desserts are steamed and they are so tasty and not overly sweet. Fluffy and pleasing.
We have also tried their savoury dishes like pork belly fried rice, spicy eggplant dish, 口水chicken (extra spicy) and fried beans. Omg, they are all so good. Comparable to Impressions Restaurant or I dare I say slightly better. Although I feel both restaurants have similar 四川Sichuan flavors.
We have been coming once a week since we discovered this gem. They do have a buffet option (which we have not tried) but I think their sit down menu (individual orders) are very good !

We were greeted with a cheerful smile and welcome by Zoe. She was knowledgeable with her menu and provided recommendations. Good to try is the beef stir fry noodles number 98!

Went to Hong Kong Seafood Restaurant for dinner.
Used to be called Great Taste, or still is called that, not really sure. Google says Great Taste is permanently shut yet this exact same location still trades under Great Taste on the delivery apps, weird.
Went for a dinner buffet all you can eat. Food was average with some being not the best and some being decent. A lot of fried foods in the food selection with a few Asian meals. Not much selection as it used to have but it's all you can eat so you can just choose what you want.
Service was average or slightly below it. Staff were nice and eventually refilled the empty trays with more food but could be better. Not one time did they come to clear our table of plates so a big mess buildup was inevitable as we were hungry and wanted to try everything.
Food was overall kind of average but it's a buffet all you can eat so it is what it is, I've spent more on dinner at other places only to be disappointed and hungry after.
Heaps of room for improvement. Would probably go back.

We visited Hong Kong Seafood Restaurant on Christmas Day and were surprised it wasn’t busy — it honestly should have been packed.
The food was fantastic. Even our fussy teenager demolished the sweet and sour pork, lemon chicken, and rice… and asked for more (which says a lot!). Everyone loved the spicy squid, and it was a bonus that they happily made it less spicy for us. The combination fried rice was loaded with meat and full of flavour.
The restaurant was super clean, and we loved that you can order fresh crayfish and a wide variety of seafood prepared fresh on site.
We’re a Kiwi family on holiday and were so happy to discover this place. Highly recommend popping in — definitely worth a visit!

Love the service in this restaurant : I think this is a very authentic Chinese restaurant in Dunedin. There is a buffet and a la carte. The Sichuan cuisine tastes very good. The pickled fish tastes authentic. My family and I come here often. The service is also very good.
