So amazing ! This is the second time trying this place, first time was from UberEats at a friend’s house. Previous to this I’d only ever tried fish n chips a handful of times in NZ as they’re usually greasy and doughnut like, but this exceeded expectations.
Excellent quality and value at a really reasonable price. This was a gurnard fillet and scoop of fries for just $11.80
The standard batter is crisp and medium-light density so it’s certainly not like a doughnut as most places can be. Not quite as light as a tempura but certainly nowhere near as dense as a beer batter. The fries are really good quality straight cut and cooked to perfection. If you’re looking to lower your sodium intake, maybe ask them to go a bit lighter on the seasoning as this was almost borderline excessive seasoning on the fries.
The store was really clean and the owners / staff are really friendly. Not sure what the previous reviewer was referring to, but these weren’t greasy at all, exactly as I remember from trying them the first time a week ago. I’m NOT a big fan kiwi classics, especially fish n chips: so this was a standout winner for the value and quality.
